With the annual Apple event due in September, you might be wondering what’s in store this year. We know that Apple will reveal their next generation iPhone but what can we expect this year? Here’s a roundup of the rumors, leaks, and news surrounding the iPhone 15.
Thin Bezels and Titanium Curved Edges:
This is similar to the MacBook Pro range and changing from the current stainless steel to titanium could make the iPhone lighter. It is rumored that the back edge would have a slight curve on it and that the display bezel is set to be its thinnest yet.
Goodbye, Lightning Port:
The biggest rumor is that the lightning port is being replaced by a USB-C port at long last. Some of this is down to pressure from the EU for iPhone manufacturers to make their connections uniform by next year. Whether this will happen or whether another rumor will come true instead – that Apple will remove all ports from its devices. That would mean introducing other features, such as MagSafe or Qi charging, smart connectors, and wireless data transfer. They may even introduce Thunderbolt capabilities for transferring large files fast.
Dynamic Island:
The Dynamic Island was made available on previous Pro models but now it is rumored that all iPhone 15 models will have it.
Action Button:
It is rumored that the Action Button will take the place of the Mute switch and it’s said to be programmable for use with tasks such as launching the camera, taking screenshots, activating Siri, media playback, volume control, and many more.
New Colors:
This year, the color lineup is said to include light blue, dark pink, white, blue, and red, among the other standard colors.
Camera News:
It is rumored that the iPhone 15 could have a brand new camera system to add more optical zoom. This would be done with a new folding camera within the iPhone, adding space between the lens and sensor. What isn’t clear is whether a fourth lens would be added or the existing Telephone lens will be replaced. It’s also been rumored that every iPhone 15 model will have a 48MP wide camera and that two selfie cameras may be available on one of the new models.
Display Upgrade:
Another rumor that reached our ears is that we can expect a significant upgrade to the display. All models will feature ProMotion technology, increasing refresh rate up to 120Hz. The standard and Plus models will come in 6.1” and 6.7” displays sizes with 2532×1170 and 2778×1284 px respectively. The Pro models will come in the same sizes but with better resolutions.
Other Features:
Other rumored features include:
- New chipset: A17 Bionic chip
- RAM: Pro models will get up to 8GB RAM
- Battery: slightly larger, improving battery life
- Always On: Always-on display so you can see date, notifications, and time without waking the iPhone
- No Sim Tray: already available in some countries but will be available in more countries, prompting more use of e-Sims
- Faster Wi-Fi 6E: an upgrade to the faster Wi-Fi 6E is possible for Pro models, bringing faster speeds, lower latency, and more capacity.
These are just some of the rumors regarding the latest iPhone, but we’ll have to wait until September to find out for definite. Are you excited? We know we are!
Reason for Delaying in iPhone 15 Lineup Launch:
The issues with the new display are the reason for the iPhone launch delay. The display manufacturer LG is delaying mass production due to display changes as Apple is making the required changes in the display. Therefore one month’s wait is expected to launch the all-new iPhone’s smaller bezel display.
iPhone 15 Pro Max:
The report suggests that Apple will hike its Pro models price and will be the most expensive iPhone ever, costing $1299.
Design:
The design of the iPhone 15 Pro Max will remain the same as its predecessor, but the side could be featured with titanium instead of stainless steel.
Camera:
The camera will have updated features with Sony sensors which will be larger than ever, and most importantly, low-light photography will be improved.
Performance:
Regarding performance, it will get an A17 Bionic chipset; it will be more efficient in any smartphone that will exist by that time. It will offer a larger battery, faster charging, and USB C instead of a lightning port.
